Whether you are exploring the idea of adopting from Colombia, working on your dossier, waiting on approvals, or about to travel for the adoption, there are many questions that will arise. Scott Placek, is a licensed attorney, but more important the father of three boys adopted from Colombia. Scott is available to share his first hand knowledge and experience with you and help answer question or provide ideas for troubleshooting delays and problems.
Scott does not accept referral fees from adoption agencies, attorneys or in country providers such as facilitators or lodging providers. His recommendations are independent and based on his experience and research in the field, and nothing else.
Pre-Process
For families that are simply exploring the possibility of Colombian adoption, Scott offers a free 30 minute consultation where he can give you a quick summary of the adoption process and answer questions. As you move forward, Scott can also assist you with selecting an agency that will best serve your needs.
In Process
For families that have selected an agency, Scott is available to consult on a wide variety of issues. He can assist with locating experienced social workers or psychologists for required studies. He can review and assist with both dossier and immigration submissions. He also offers phone consultations on a half hour or hourly basis. If issues arise, he can recommend a plan of action, analyze agency recommendations or connect you with professionals in Colombia who may be able to lend assistance. If legal representation is required for immigration issues, Scott's law firm, Arnold & Placek, P.C. can be retained to help address these adoption specific matters.
Ready to Travel?
For many families, the excitement of finally receiving a match with a child is tempered by concern and trepidation over the five to eight weeks you will be required to stay in Colombia while the legal process to finalize the adoption takes place. Agencies can offer recommendations, but Scott can offer independent advice about travel issues that may concern you. With a total of over three months "on the ground" in Colombia for various adoption related trips, Scott has been right where you are and can help guide you and provide you the reassurance you need before you leave home. For our clients who are in Colombia, our services do not stop. Scott is available days, nights and weekends to answer questions, connect you with service providers in Colombia, and provide independent analysis of any issue you may have. And because we know money is tight when you are traveling, we do not charge for any service provider referrals.
